Venice Regata Storica 2013

Venice Regata Storica 2013The Regata Storica is the main event in the annual calendar of races “Voga alla Veneta“, unique discipline practised for thousands of years in the lagoon of Venice.
Nowadays made even more spectacular by the famous parade that precedes the race: a procession of dozens of  typical sixteenth-century style boats with gondoliers in costume carrying the Doge and all the highest offices of the Venetian officials in a faithful reconstruction of the glorious past of one of the most powerful and influential Maritime Republics in the Mediterranean.

The regatta has ancient origins, probably in the middle of the thirteenth century by the need to train the oar crews of the countless boats of Venice.
Nowadays the four competitions are divided into categories by age categories and types of boats: the most famous and exciting is the champions’ race in gondolas, whizzing Grand Canal to the finish line in front of the famous “machina“, the spectacular floating stage located in front of the Ca ‘Foscari Palace.

Also this year you can witness the procession and competitions sitting comfortably on our boats moored along the Grand Canal.

For a more exclusive experience you can watch the show from the balcony of an ancient palace a few steps from Ca’ Foscari, with catering service included: there are 2 living rooms with 5 windows overlooking the Grand Canal, for a maximum of 20 people. A buffet is served with cakes, tiramisu, ice cream, coffee, sparkling wine, soft drinks, from 14.30 onwards 19.30/20.00
